How We Constructed Our Dream House in Kathmandu (and So Can You!)

In the case of many people, building a dream house is an investment that is alluring and at the same time life-altering. In the context of a crowded city like Kathmandu, this task can be particularly overwhelming for a number of different reasons. 4. Home Design: Blueprint Creation  

With the site and construction company selected, we had to get down to design. This phase was a mix of exciting and challenging as we had to meet practical considerations alongside our dreams.

We started the process by collaborating with an architect who made a functional blueprint of our ideas. Due to the cost, we decided on open spaces, lots of natural light, and energy saving features like solar panels and insulated walls. The design aimed to have large interconnected rooms, such as the kitchen, living room, and dining room, so that it is easy for family interactions.

In addition to those, I included customized items such as furniture and decor specifically designed to match my family’s style.

• Floors and Walls: Select materials that are long-lasting and easily maintained, and also compliment your home’s style.

• Lighting: Good Lighting can transform the mood of a room. It can be the difference between a pleasant room and a fantastic room. To achieve the right atmosphere for the room, we used different lighting techniques such as ambient, task, and accent lighting. 

• Furnishings and Decor: With a few personal touches, your house will feel like home. 

7. Final Walkthrough and Move-In: Officially Done 

The final step for me was the “walkthrough.” This is the part where I check everything to make sure all is well for my expectations. The construction company does any last-minute fixes before, “here are the keys!” 

Once everything passes the inspection, move in. Start settling in. I can say for sure, it is pure joy to see your dreams come alive after all that hard work.
